Myanmar Army at Bangladesh Border |
The minister said the killing of a Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) nayek on Wednesday and firing on BGB men on Wednesday and Friday took place "due to misunderstanding".
He was talking to reporters at his secretariat office in the capital.
Myanmar deployed army on its border along Naikkhangchhari since Wednesday after the neighbouring country's border guards fired on a BGB patrol team and took an injured team member intruding Bangladeshi territory.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nayek Mizanur Rahman, 43, was shot when Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) without provocation opened fire on a BGB patrol team near Border Pillar-52.
After three days, Myanmar border police yesterday handed over the body of Mizanur at the frontier near Painchhari in Naikkhangchhari amid high tension on the border and diplomatic manoeuvres.
When a BGB team went near the spot on Friday looking for Mizanur, the BGP opened fire on them that led to a five-hour gun battle.
