Myanmar returns arms and ammo of slain BGB man

Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP) today returned the arms and ammunition which they took away from slain Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) nayek Mizanur Rahman.
A sub-machine gun (SMG), four magazines and 120 bulletswere handed over to a BGB delegation at a sector commander-level flag meeting at Maungdaw in Myanmar, said BGB Cox's Bazar Sector Commander Col KhandakarFarid Hasan.
Col Farid, who led a 23-member BGB delegation at the meeting, was speaking at a press briefing in Cox’s Bazar this evening, reports our Cox’s Bazar correspondent.
The BGB men entered Myanmar through Teknaf Land Port around 8:30am and began the four-hour meeting around 10:30am with a 15-member BGP team headed by Brig Tinkoko.
A tense situation has been prevailing along Naikkhangchhari of Bandarban since Mizanur was killed in the BGP firing.
BGP members had also taken away the body intruding into Bangladesh territory.
On May 30, Myanmar border guards attacked another BGB team when it neared the border searching for Mizanur. A gun battle then took place between the two sides.
Myanmar finally handed over Mizanur's body to BGB the following day as the foreign ministry summoned the Myanmar ambassador in Bangladesh twice demanding the body and withdrawal of the army Myanmar had deployed along the border.
After the May 28 incident, Myanmar deployed army to stand guard with its border police along its border with Bangladesh while BGB called for reinforcement with heavy weapons.
Meanwhile, 40 to 50 families from four bordering villages -- Jamchhari, Phultoli, PhultolirMatha and Achhartoli -- have not yet returned to their houses, reported our Cox's Bazar correspondent. They fled the villages hearing firing of mortar shells and gunshots in Myanmar across the border in Naikkhangchhari.
They are not feeling safe, said local union parishad member Ali Hossain yesterday.
The shooting, however, took place inside the Myanmar territory and it did not affect Bangladeshis in the bordering areas.
