Army entered into a new era as the much-awaited self-propelled (SP)
guns and Metis M-1 anti-tank guided missiles were inducted into the
force.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally handed over the Serbia- made 155mm NORA B-52 SP guns to the 11 SP Regiment, the lone SP Unit of Bangladesh Army, and the Russsia-made Metis M-1 missiles to the Infantry Regiment of Bangladesh Army in Tarmac Area at the Dhaka Cantonment.
She also handed over the China-made PF-98 anti-tank weapons and Turkey-made light armoured vehicles to the Infantry Regiment and sound ranging equipment to Locating Wing of the Artillery Regiment.
Hasina hoped that the addition of avant-garde canons, armored vehicles and equipment including SP Guns would boost psychological and moral strength of the Army to a great extent.
These are also important steps towards crossing the target of adding such ultra-modern equipments aiming to achieve the ‘Forces Goal-2030’, she said.
The Prime Minister said that with tireless and coordinated efforts of the concerned ministries, various avant-garde war weapons including modern helicopters, fourth generation Tanks, APC, Missiles and weapon locating radars have been added to Bangladesh Army.
Besides, she said, necessary equipments have been purchased for Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force to build those as most modern forces.
Referring to the purchase of most modern SP guns, sound ranging equipment, anti-tank missiles and light armored vehicles for the Army, she said these would help build a well-equipped modern force as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.
Hasina also mentioned the agreements already signed to procure more modern war equipment including the multiple rocket launcher system which would be inducted into the army very soon.
With the rotation of time, she said, Bangladesh Army born with the spirit of the War of Liberation has now been recognized as a well-educated, efficient and disciplined force.
