HN-5A Man-Portable Air Defence System of Bangladesh

The HN-5A is an improved variant of the HN-5 first generation Chinese man-portable air defence system. Improvements include an all-aspect attack capability and longer range in comparison to the original HN-5 system.
The system consists of the missile, a reusable tube launcher, and a thermal battery. The missile's seeker is fitted with a filter to reduce the effectiveness of decoying flares and to block IR emissions. An identification friend or foe (IFF) system can be fitted to the operator’s helmet.
Status
The Bangladesh Army received the first shipment of HN-5A and HN-5J1A MANPADS in 1991-1992. These are being currently phased out by more advanced QW-2 MANPADS.
